I may have a problem with my 2002 Acura TL-S. I had a friend drive it the other day for me while I was driving another vehicle. The type S is an automatic with a manual shifting mode. He apparently accidentally shifted it into the "manual mode" and drove 50 miles on it in 2nd and 3rd gear, I would guess at speeds of 50-65mph. He said it didn't hit redline but another friend said smoke was coming out of the left tailpipe. Now the check engine light is on and won't go away. I'm not very familiar with cars, (although I know enough not to drive it 50 miles in low gear!) what could be wrong with the car from the situation I described? I drove it today and yesterday and it seems okay except for the engine light. I also took it to a auto supply store, according to the hand held diagnostic, the error code is P0715, from the prinout he gave me, it said possible causes: short in the electrical, speed sensor.
Please help! I want to have some clue as to what the issue before I take it in to dealer.
Thanks!

We have several Acura tech on the site and one should be able to offer suggestions for you.

You need friends with a better feel for automobiles -

My experience whit "check engine" lights has almost always ended with the tech saying "It's your O-2 sensor".

Actually the "check engine" light just came on in my NSX - again - and yes, it is the O-2 sensor. Seems there are 4 on th NSX, two on each bank and one needs replacing - and it is not under warranty unfortunately.

Oh well, such is life...

I am curious to see what your situation ends up being. Please make a post about it.

According to the dealer, I have a leak in the transmission that is causing the check engine light to come on. They also noticed my engine mounts have stress cracks in it and said I should replace them ($650!). Is it common for engine mounts to have stress cracks on it?
