In 2006 I took my 2000 RL to the Acura Dealership because after a hard rain, water leaked into the front passenger side of the car. I was told that no problem was found. I didn’t drive the car on a regular basis so the problem did not occur again until last month when I was traveling in extremely heavy rain. After parking the car early morning and attempting to leave for lunch at noon, water began to pour into the car from the floor board of the front passenger side. I decided not to take it back to the Acura Dealership since they didn’t have a clue before. I took it to a shop that specialized in Acura and Honda repair. I told the technician what happened and he immediately knew what the problem was. He stated that there was a service bulletin about the problem stating that it could eventually lead to electrical problems from water getting under the hood. I went back to the Acura Dealership and questioned them about why they were unaware of the bulletin. I was told that no such bulletin existed. I went back to the other repair shop and got a copy which I graciously left with the Acura Dealership in the interest of saving other customers from having their vehicle flood or experience avoidable electrical problems.

I called the Acura manufacturer today to report the problem. I was first told that there was no service bulletin regarding a water leak. I told her that it was listed under electrical and she eventually found it. I informed her that it cost me over $300 dollars to have the problem corrected and I felt sure that other RL owners had experienced the same problem. She informed me that no other RL owners had contacted Acura regarding water pouring into the car on the front passenger side after a heavy rain. I feel strongly that there are other owners who have had this problem. If you own a 2000 – 2002 RL and have experienced the same problem please let Acura hear from you by calling (800) 382-2238, Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 5:00pm Pacific Standard time.

I am sorry to hear of the somewhat casual approach by the dealer to what I would deem a semi-major problem. We have several Acura techs on the site and hopefully some of them will post comments.

On a related issue - my wife's first MDX experienced a water leak with it showing up under both driver and passenger side front floorboards. The first time the dealer looked at it they checked several things, cleaned out this & that and told us it ws fixed. The next rain the problem occured again and we returned the car to the dealership. It literally took them four weeks of having the car to correct the problem, and even then they were not sure of how they did it.

Some things are just strange.
