The malfunction indicator lamp on my 1999 TL came on a few days ago. Got the manual out
and followed it's advice, I had just put gas in the car so I checked the gas cap (seemed
ok) and have taken several trips with no change in the light (it's still on). The manual
says it's possible I have a problem with one of the engine's emissions control systems, and
of course go to the dealer.
Went to AutoZone. They hooked my TL up to their reader and got the code P0401.
They gave me a print out:
1999 Acura 3.2 TL
EGR system fault (Exhaust Gas Recirculation).
Explanation: The ECM has detected too little flow on the EGR system
Probable causes:
1 Blocked passage on EGR system
2 Failed EGR valve
3 EGR solenoid faulty
4 Failed EGR pressure pensor where applicable
5 Failed EGR position sensor where applicable
They gave me a price of $134.99 for a Duralast EGR4175. The guy helping me said it
shouldn't too hard to replace. He did not know where exactly on a 1999 TL it's located,
gave me a general printout showing the EGR on a typical engine.
Any advice? Anyone done this before?
Thanks
