Aston Martin Lagonda Rapide (1961 - 1964)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This DB4 based four door sporting saloon was launched in the Autumn of 1961, at a time when the factory was struggling to produce sufficient standard cars to meet demand. The car featured the 4 litre engine which later found it's way into the DB5 and a de Dion rear axle which was a feature of the later DBS and V8's. Heavy (1,715kg), expensive (£4,950) and available only to special order, a meager 55 cars were built during it's three year life. Despite it's odd-ball looks, at least 48 cars still exist, an incredible rate of survival as the cars approach 40 years old.

I remember seeing one in New York city in 1977. I was with my parents and my dad pointed out this strange black sedan. It looked so mean and sinister to me, it was a Lagonda Rapide! I have wanted one for 30 years!

Well thanks for handing that one to me 4re308. :)

That is a 1952 Cunningham C3

There are about 19 coupes made, it has a Chrylser V8 in it and the owner of the car I took a picture of supposedly turned down 1.4 million for this car. And this one is indeed about as nice as any collectible car gets.

Could it be the rare and unusual Cunninngham? If so I think they were among the honored marque's at Pebble Beach this year.

No, but it has some Italian influence.
