I read with interest a feature in this month's issue of "Sports Car Market" about a 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren coupe that recently sold at auction. The original list price was a cool $495,000 plus add-ons, and many went for much more.
This one had only 4500 miles and sold for $309,258 at the Bonhams auction. By the time you factor in all of the little add-ons to operate an automobile the original owner probably paid something approaching $50 per mile for how much he drove it. Perhaps when you have that much money, $50 per mile is cheap.
