There are still so many rumors about this car? I hear it is going to be a Front Engine design, instead of Mid Engine. I sure hope this is false, as I think it will really kill the car's appeal. Any thoughts....?
I hope it has a V8 and is NOT a Hybrid. I know some people are talking about a V10, but I doubt it. Honda is not a company that likes to build big engines. Heck, their large lux sedans has a V6.
What ever it is, I hope they take the care to make it something really special like the orginal NSX. I loved my NSX's.

Oops, I just saw this section. I put a thread out there about the future of the next gen NSX on the NSX section. If any moderators would like to delete it, by all means do as you please.
On the topic of the next NSX, I wouldn't be surprised to see a V10. Honda built V10's for F1 and now that is over. They have all that R&D, so they may just detune it and stuff it in the NSX. And hopefully it gets suffed in the back, I have to say that stuffing it up front would be real bad for the super car image they want to portray.

That sure would be sweet if they stuff a V10 into it. I just hope it will be mid-engined. From everything I've seen and heard so far, it doesn't look too good.

As pointed out in a related post uned the NSX forum, in speaking with an insider with Acura he indicated that in spite of all the auto show hype and press releases the next generation NSX will not reach market until 2010 !!!

I am an old fellow of 62 and in my earlier years I thought the only place for a sports cars engine was up front. Of course at the time that was what the rest of the automotive world thought as well, inlcuding Indy Car racers. It took the late Mr. Colin Chapman to show us the error of our ways and automotive design was re-written. Not just in engine location, but in aerodynamics, materials and a plethora of other areas as well.
The NSX was my first mid engined sports car and now for me that is the only way to go. It favors balance and functionality. I can see the practicality and alure of a front engine for the likes of the Corvette and Viper and to me if a Porsche is not rear engined it ain't a Porsche...just don't say that to the owners of the 924 /928's.
If Acura / Honda is taking votes, put me down for mid engined for the next gen NSX - whenever that may be! (Of course by the time it is introduced the powerplant may run off pleutonium and have a flux capacitor ala "Back To The Future!).

From what I have heard, acura isnt really going for a mid-engine exotic, but more of a GT type.

I too have heard the rumors and mock-up photos that it will go the direction that Ferrari has done on and off over the years. That is to offer a 2 + 2 GT to travel in style and comfort as well as peace of mind since it is built by Acura /Honda. Many rumors indicate a front engined V10 and that would really be a divergence from the NSX.
As pointed out in an earlier post, whatever it is, let's get on with it. There is a big gap between the final NSX and the next whatever replaces it...as if anything can replace our amazing sports car. I do wish Acura would try though.

Sounds a bit like what Lotus is doing with their project called the Eagle. Although that will be a mid engine 2+2 instead on front engined.

Today I was speaking with an Acura official and according to him after customer objections Acura decided to abandon the GT concept and go back to a mid-engine design.
You know, I don't think anyone really knows what it will be or when, but let's hope it is soon. (Of course in automotive terms "soon" can be 5 years away.)

Well luckily we may have some sort of safety net, if you want to call it that. I really do hope the NSX sucessor will be a MR layout, but if its not.. theres always the R8.. I would much rather stay with a Acura/Honda.. those damned German cars always seem backwards to me when it comes to working on them!

i say they leave it Mid-Engine and just make it a little faster and make the look retouched but still like the original.

Keep in mind that Honda does have some smallish capacity V-10's in its warehouse. The fact that they are ex-F1 engines could prove very, very interesting.

I for one would love to see a V10 power plant in spite of the weight (even with a small bore) and mileage limitations. However, I think the reality of the situation and when considering Honda's history I think we will be lucky to get a V8.
