I see that a 1972 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV coupe sold at a recent RM auction in California for $891,000. That's quite a bit of pocket change, even though it is an unusual vehicle.
In 1991 I had a friend who owned a new NSX and was asking him what other car he considered prior to buying it. He said that he has loved the Miura since he was a boy and found one for sale. On his test drive, it was difficult to start, when it was going it was difficult to stop and parts in between weren't good either. The final blow against buying it was that the transmission sort of "moved back & forth" when accelerating and stopping. The salesman said not to worry, that was typical of all Miuras.
At that point my friend figured perhaps the Miura was not the supercar for him and a few months later purchased the much more reliable NSX.
As far as prices go, I don't know if it was the more desirable SV or one of the earlier models he looked at, and if I recall the prices was fairly close to a new NSX of the day - around $60K. I still think he was better off with the NSX. At least you can drive it with confidence.
