Ok, let me start this off.
I looked seriously at the NSX before buying my built (Roger Stine) cobra. I am very cautious of buying a car that will suck you dry in repairs and maintenance, which is why I bought the FFR cobra. I swapped out a clutch in a weekend for <$200. I'm sure that would not be the case with the NSX, but I am counting on the fact that this type of repair would not be needed but every 50K miles or so. I have a friend with a ferarri and he was at $.50-$.75 in maintentance and repairs.
Is the NSX the ultimate reliable exotic? What can I count on in annual maintenance and repairs?

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me in a lot of ways. When I went to build my FFR, I wasn't the die hard Cobra fanatic that a lot of guys are. I wanted some kind of fun car and did the old pros and cons list along with some cost and depreciation analysis. On the list from memory besides the FFR.... Miata and throw in a supercharger, old 911, 1st year NSX (a stretch for me), Mustang Vert, Ferrari 308 (another stretch). The NSX would have been a very close choice if I could have found something for $17k back in '00 but that was not the case.
I've blown the clutch in my Cobra......$31 in parts and it was back on the road :D. Gotta love cheap ford parts.

One of the guys I work with basically daily drives his NSX. From what I hear they are extremely reliable, but parts can be expensive, as with any limited production exotic car. Nice looking cars and they drive really well.

I had a '93 NSX for a while - total blast, very easy on the wallet (and I wasn't easy on the car!), ran it for 16K miles up to 60K total. Maintenance wasn't really any worse than say a Legend at the time, as long as you were smart enough to shop around for service...
Come to think of it, I spent more on tickets than I ever did on the car...! ;)

If you buy an NSX, just have a dealer do a pre-purchase inspection. They will let you know if the car needs anything or is do for any recalls.
Between me, my wife and her father, we've had 9 NSX's in the past 10 years. Mike's put over 100,000 miles on his without problems. Of the 9 cars we had very few problems.
Compared to a Ferrari, these cars are cheap to keep up. About like a Legend.
