Is riding a lawn mower a motor vehicle? Most people wouldn't give the question much thought. However, this is an important question for a Georgia man.
In May of 2006, Franklin Lloyd Harris was arrested for stealing a Toro riding lawn mower from a Home Depot in Dalton, GA. He was convicted of motor vehicle theft and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Georgia Supreme Court will hear arguments on Harris' appeal, which contends that riding a mower dosen't meet the definition of a motor vehicle under Georgia law. Should he win his contention, there will be a substantial reduction in his sentence.
So, what do you think? Should riding a lawn mower be considered the same as rding a motor vehicle, and stealing as well?
In my opinion, I think not and hope the court agrees...although it is hard to find sympathy for a thief.
