In a recent interview with John Watts, Product Planner Manager for Acura, he feels that Japanese luxury brands pale in comparison to their German rivals in numbers of models offered. That segment of the market is expanding and Acura needs more varied vehicles to compete. Several new models are being discussed and among these is a coupe to replace the original CL dropped after 2003. Other options include a retractable hardtop and a RWD V8 sedan. (I wonder if the retractable hardtop will in any way resemble the Ford Skyliner from the '60's? Those were mechanical and electrical nightmares, but I have no doubt that Honda engineers could rectify that).
Of course the car on everyone's lips is the often spoken about next generation NSX super sports car. Most folks in company circles say realistically not to see it on the streets until 2010 or 2011. Sure sounds like a long way off to me.
