The world's tallest hotel recently opened in Dubai - the Burj Al Arab. It is built on an artificial island on the Persian Gulf in the United Arab Emirates and looks somewhat like a very tall sail boat. To say it is an architectural and cultural phenomena is an understatement.

Room go for as "little" as $1000 per night with most around $15,000. For those wanting more in an accommodation, the "better" rooms run $28,000 per night! That is as in twenty eight one thousand dollar bills! I hope it has an open bar...and someone feeding you grapes...and a sponge bath. It would not be an overstatement to say that the Burj Al Arab is an upscale Day's Inn - very upscale. I guess that when you have more money that you know what to do with and there are just so many Rolls-Royce's and turbans you can use, $28,000 for a night lodging sounds reasonable. Think of how many AmEx miles that will buy you. Stay there a week and you have your choice of anything from the AmEx Rewards book. So when put into perspective perhaps $28,000 for the night appears to be a bargain not to be passed up. I wonder if Willie Shatner, the Priceline negotiator can get me a deal? Let's see - 30% off $28,000 will run just under $20k for the night. Wonder if I can float that one by my wife - and banker???

Nice to see petrol dollars put to good use and not wasted friviously, but hey, it's their money (formerly ours).

P.S. - Google it to see the photos. Worth the view.

There are so many Americans that don't even make that in a year!
That is a pretty wild contrast that one man can spend the equivalent of another mans yearly wages for a roof over his head for one night.
