I was reading in a gentleman's publication - O.K., it was "Playboy" - about a suggested Christmas gift, a watch. It seems that this watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre called the Reverso Triptyque has several layers that open to reveal a second and third dial. In addition to telling time, it has celestial information (important if you are an astrologer), and moon phases. All this neatly packaged for only $375,000!

I then noticed a feature in another magazine, "Newsweek" - I read "Playboy" for the articles and "Newsweek" for the pictures - on a time piece by a manufacturer called Corum. Their Classical Billionaire Tourbillon model with diamonds & sapphires is available for $975,000. That makes the Reverso Triptyque downright cheap in comparison.

These sure seem like a lot of money just to tell the time...

A couple of years ago I was playing tennis with a fairly successful neighbor (he was V.P. of Avco Finance - the friendly loan company...until you miss a payment - and noticed him wearing what appeared to be an expensive Rolex watch. Jockingly I told him his watch looked almost real from a distance. At that he took it off and tossed it over to me and when I caught it I knew it was no fake. It was the "Presidential" model with a diamond enchrusted bezel and at that "time" ran around $20k. I guess some folks have a hard time finding things to spend money on once you have the basics covered.
