A New Zealand brewer is offering a lifetime supply of free beer in exchange for the return of a stolen laptop. A computer containing finiancials, label designs and business contacts is missing. The owner of the brewery said "Opportunistic kids and a flimsey padlock resulted in the theft."
The microbrewery will give a reward of a dozen bottels of beer a month for the rest of their life to the person returning it. The value of the reward is estimated at $19,500. When reading this two points come to mind - first, suspose some old dude like me returns it and perhaps will not live enough years to actually enjoy the $19,500 worth of beer and secondly what makes them think 12 bottles a month is enough for life. These folks obviously never met my brother who can go through 12 botles in a day.
The brewery was warned to make the terms of the reward very precise. A winery ran into legal difficulty with the winner of an offer of five years of free wine. The winner sued to extend the supply because he did not receive five years of wine comenserate with his drinking abilities. Also the question of legal age for drinking comes into play as well.
To date the reward has not encouraged anyone to return the stolen computer. Perhaps he is holding out for a better offer...
