In a press release just published by Consumer Reports Acura and Honda continue to trounce their domestic rivals in vehicle reliability. The list predicts reliability of the 2008 model year based on past preformance. The ratings are gathered from surveys of approximately 1 million online and print subscribers.
Toyota had 17 vehicles on the list of the 39 most reliable models, far more than any other automaker, but their scores are falling somewhat. Among the least reliable were Hummer and Land Rover and the top rated domestic brand was Buick, which was 10th. There was good news for Ford in that it is making the most reliable vehicles in years, though still not up to the standards of its Asian competitors.
Consumer Reports reliability issue is scheduled to hit newsstands November 6th. Since Consumer Reports is a non-profit and unbiased agency its recommendations are closely watched by automakers because of their influence on car buyers.
