Fall is a good time of the year to give your car a through detail. The weather is cooler, you can protect the finish for the winter and all of that good stuff.
One important area of detailing frequently over looked are the windows. While there are many fine products that do an adequate job, one I find that is excellent to use and earth friendly too is "Bon Ami".
For years I had used everything from Windex to a very expensive cleaner purchased from Griot's Garage, and frankly was not overly pleased with any of them. At the time I owned a Mercedes and had always dealer serviced. When your car was serviced the technician assigned to your vehicle would always go over the car and provide you with a cassette tape of his thoughts about it. It was kind of a nice gesture, and considering the cost for most services, the least the dealer could do. Anyway, in discussing a window cleaner, his recommendation was to periodically give it a good cleaning with Bon Ami.
We had Bon Ami under the sink in the kitchen, although I have no idea what my wife ever used it for, but it never occured to me to use it on my car. But now I am in the habbit of doing so every month or two and the windows do seem clearer and cleaner. (Ah, the power of advertising).
Related to the Bon Ami, the felow from M-B said to be sure to wipe the blade edges too. There is even a small "tool" I found that is specifically made for cleaning your windshield wiper blade! Now that's specialization.
This isn't a commercial for Bon Ami, but it is a good product, cheap and will not harm your glass. They have been around for over 120 years and their slogan shows a chicken with the words - "Hasn't Scratched Yet!"
Any other detailing tips forum members can share?
