One night in 1984 in the small rural town of Claxton, GA (known mostly for it's fruit cakes - the edible kind and not the human kind) the Morris family heard a whizzing noise followed by a loud crash. Upon investigating they found their mailbox mangled and near it a 3 pound rock, still hot to the touch. A meteorite had struck the mailbox.
The now famous mailbox sold this week at auction for an "astronomical" $82,750 and a tiny piece of the rock itself, went for $7,700! It certainly give new meaning to the phrase "you've got mail!"
