Recently my son-in-law attended an annual Cobra event in Ohio. (See previous post with video of Cobras and other cars + burnouts). He drove his Ford GT, an amazing sports car itself.
While there, part of the event involved the Mid Ohio race track, where he met an Irish fellow named Tommy Byrne. Although I am a big Formula One fan, I had never heard of Tommy. He had a brief and lack-luster career in F1, not due to his driving ability, but rather to several other factors - some beyond his control and others within it.
Anyway, he is a driver who under slightly different circumstances could have been World Champion - and that's no exageration. His book, "Crashed and Byrned" is a very interesting read, especially if you happen to like auto sports. I highly recommend it.
Below is a link with some information about Tommy and his story.
