There is an interesting review of the 2008 Acura RL on www.autoblog.com. This is an unbiased and independent evaluation of the RL and is most favorable.

When they reviewed the previous generation RL they thought it somewhat bland and reminiscent of the Lexus. However the 2008 RL has a character all its own. They were impressed by the styling and quality interior as well as the features offered. Especially liked were the navi and cruise control system.

The RL tested is fullyed optioned and list at $54,036, not a small price. The reviewer points out that for the same money you can buy a BMW 535xi, which too is a fine automobile. However our RL enjoys a very favorable comparison and the conclusion is that -

"The RL is the most under appreciated luxury sports sedan on the road." That says volumes. I think we have a keeper here.

I will say this - It seems acura is trying to get back to what a Legend/RL was originally intended for, sportiness, innovative, etc.., but I dont particularly like the new RL's styling. In my opinion it isnt high luxury like the 7Series or SClasses or Lexus LS it is SUPPOSED to compete with as a luxury flagship. However, I am waiting to see what the next gen will look like (if there is one).

Word is that there is a true contender for the 7 Series, MB S-Class, and Lexus LS in the works. It will be a big body, big engine (maybe a detuned V10 from the ASC concept?), and big lux. Initial reactions going around are very positive.

Dont count Acura out of the game yet ;-)

Cant count a company like Acura out. Never, not while I am driving a 14 year old car that still has style and grace - Legends never die.

However, Honda/Acura just needs to get their head back into the game, that's all. A V10 Flag ship, is interesting - but what they heck is their issue with V8's? I mean, really, I would be satified with a rear drive Fuel effiecient V8.

Acura's reasoning behind the no V8. Honda beleives that if they're making the same power as the V8s, theres no reason to have one. Of course that kinda leaves power junkies like us out in the shed. The possibilities of something even remotely similar to Honda's Indy V8 would be awesome.. but you never know what they might come out with.. just a V8 is something that hasnt been officially announced.
