My 2005 Acura RL AFS light is always on. Delaer replaced the AFS Unit and Steering Wheel Sensor under warranty but it didnt help. They said the next thing they can do is replace the headlamp unit which would cost $1500 and its not covered under warranty because it looks like its been in an accident.
I asked them why did they even replace the AFS unit and steering wheel sensor if it appeared that it was in accident. They replied we didn't realize it until after installing the parts and doing further investigation.
Does this seem legit? If they started it and left the parts in shouldn't they finish the job?
It seems pretty dumb to me that they didn't realize it was in accident until after installing the parts.
Anyone have any other ideas what it could be before replacing the headlamp unit?

I don't have a clue about the mechanical aspects of the problem, but I think that a frank discussion with the general manager of the dealership is in order. You should expalin your position as described in your post. Were there not other test that could have been preformed before the unsuccessful work was done that would give a more definitive answer to the problem?
If the dealership is still unresponsive in a positive manner as I understand it the next step is to speak with the zone manager, but I am not positive on that point. We have several members associated with dealerships who can better address that issue.
Good luck with getting this resolved. Please let the forum know what happened.

its a very delicate situation you're in. in order for the dealer to get paid for the work, the warranty company (Acura themselves, in this case) will some times recall the parts that were diagnosed as defective. if acura finds these items not to be defective (caused by an accident) the dealer incurrs fines and will not be paid for the parts and the labor.
has this car ever been in an accident to your knowledge? are you the original owner? did you buy this car from this dealership? have you had your car serviced at this dealership?
those are some of the questions they will ask you when they are considering the repairs. looking at things on my side of the table, its very risky if the vehicle has been involved in a front or side impact collision. if the vehicle has been involved in a accident, I would contact the insurance company that paid for the repairs and have them add on that to the claim, some companies will go back to a previous paid claim and add an addendum to the repair if its proven that the part was damaged by the accident.
Mike is also on the right path of going up the ladder, its best to have the dealer on your side when it comes to dealing with insurance companies or warranty companies. dealers have histories with a lot of these companies and that rapport helps in situations such as these.

I am the 2nd owner of this vehicle. I do not know the previous history but it does not look like its been in a accident to me.
I know there is a service Bulletin on this, AFS unit, but the dealer said they replaced it.
Will look into this further and keep you guys posted.
Thanks for the tips.
