When a Connecticut man bent down to pick up what he thought was a piece of litter on a Norwich sidewalk, he came up with an envelope containing a $185,000 check.
Reggie Damone, who receives food stamps and works at McDonald's, said he didn't think about trying to cash it. Instead, the 47-year-old took a bus from his Jewett City home to a bank and returned the check to the niece of the landlord to whom it was written.
She thanked him with a $50 reward.
Granted, it was a check and probably would have been difficult to cash if he had any larceny in his heart, but really a $50 reward? Even someone who is frugal - O.K., maybe just plain cheap - would have offered more than $50.
For the mathematically inclined, that represents .0002702 % of the total amount.
Soooo, what would be a fair reward for such an magnamous gesture? What do you say?
